The St. Croix Environmental Association's mission is "To promote the conservation of environmental resources, provide education and advocate for environmentally responsible actions that benefit St. Croix."

To this end, SEA owns, manages and protects the unique habitats and natural resources of the Southgate Coastal Reserve (SCR), 100 acres of coastal salt pond, mangrove forest, beach forest, upland grassland and nearly a mile of beach front. The pond and surrounding wetlands provide habitat for many resident and migrant birds including several species classified as threatened or endangered. Three species of endangered or threatened sea turtles nest on the beach. SEA's environmental educators visit local schools presenting age-appropriate environmental learning modules, conduct Eco-Fairs, provide summer programs and network with many summer camps to reach over 2000 school children on St. Croix each year. They also regularly offer educational events for adults to enhance environmental awareness. Advocacy for the environment has been aimed at assuring a responsible and sustainable balance between appropriate economic development and sustainable development that protects the environment of St. Croix.
